Is ibogaine treatment lawful in South Africa?

Treatment happens in South Africa, under South African regulation, delivered by an independent provider on that provider’s own licence and liability. iboga.africa is not the provider and does not publish a legal opinion about anyone else’s practice.

What we will do is tell you exactly what to ask for. The provider’s registration, who the responsible clinician is, what they are permitted to administer and on what basis, and what happens to that permission if your screening comes back complicated. A provider who cannot answer those four questions in writing is not on our list.

Is it safe?

Ibogaine carries real cardiac risk. It affects heart rhythm, and people have died after being screened badly or not screened at all. That is the whole reason this site exists in the form it does.

Any provider worth considering requires an ECG, bloods including a liver panel, and a full review of everything you take, prescribed or not, before they will accept you. During dosing you should be on continuous cardiac monitoring with someone qualified watching it. Nobody at iboga.africa administers medicine, diagnoses anyone, or guarantees a result. We read the files, we visit the facilities, and we tell you what we found.

Who is a good candidate for this work?

Adults who have already been through the ordinary routes, who can travel, and who want to be screened honestly, including being told no.

Some people are ruled out and it is not negotiable. Active cardiac conditions, certain medications that cannot be safely stopped, and some psychiatric histories are hard stops. If screening puts you in one of those groups we say so during preparation, not on the day you land, and we do not pass you along to someone with a looser filter.

What is included?

Eight weeks of preparation before you travel. Records gathered, an ECG and liver panel arranged where you live, a medication taper planned with your own prescriber, and a coordinator who stays on your case rather than handing you to a queue.

Then the referral itself, with your file transferred to the provider only after you approve the release, and twelve weeks of structured integration afterwards with a clinician in your own timezone. Treatment is billed by the provider, separately, to you. We take no commission from any provider we refer to, which is the only reason our shortlist is worth reading.
